Director of Business Development
In this executive management position, the Director of Business Development will define strategic, targeted, market-driven software solutions, and oversee the chosen portfolio through its initial life cycle, from strategic planning to go-to-market tactical activities. This would involve managing a team of Solutions Managers, and working closely with both Business and Software Development teams to ensure that the selection of the strategic directions, roadmap, and delivery milestones are well coordinated within the organization and with industry partners and collaborators.
The Director would define market segments, market problems, conduct technology assessments, competitive analyses, and run the relevant financial models. He/she will lead the Business Development team to identify all products and components that make up the solution portfolio, develop buyer/user personas and detailed user workflows for communication and education of internal teams. Together with the reports and other business units, the team will develop solution positioning, packaging, pricing, and messaging that differentiates the solution in the market. They will oversee the Technological Implementation of the target solutions—develop and drive the solution roadmaps, which should include detailed IT, scientific, technical, integration, and automation requirements. Upon successful completion, the Business Development team under the management of the Director will develop and implement a company-wide go-to-market plan and strategy.
To succeed in this position, the candidate should have expertise and familiarity with the cheminformatics marketplace in chemical and pharmaceutical R&D. He/she should have a background that allows him/her to quickly come up to speed with both advanced scientific (chemistry) as well as IT aspects of the ACD/Labs business. The candidate must have product management experience in the software field. Importantly, the candidate should have experience and interest in the commercial aspects of the role. He/she should be an outgoing communicator, with proficiency in English, to become a spokesperson for ACD/Labs strategic development initiatives.
