Toronto, Canada, October 23, 2002 -

Advanced Chemistry Development, Inc., (ACD/Labs) announced that it will work to integrate its SpecX technology with CambridgeSoft's E-Notebook.

Customers in the US, Japan, and Europe have expressed a preference for the versatility, performance, and ease of use that the ACD/SpecX technology provides, and have requested that both companies work together to deliver best-of-breed applications to their scientist users.

A brief technical synopsis of the technology is presented below:

  • Reads and displays spectral data from files in many formats. Among them: NMR, MS, UV-Vis, IR, Raman, and chromatography (GC and LC).
  • Files can be local, on the network, or from FTP or HTTP addresses.
  • Users can set the display preferences for each spectral technique and control the colors and fonts for: axis labels, grids, peaks, integrals, multiplets, assignments, and annotations.
  • Provides "zoom in/zoom out" tools.
  • Displays spectral parameters, shift assignments, fragment assignments, and annotations in dialog boxes.
  • Coordinates with ACD/MolX, so that scrolling through a table of shifts or fragments will display the assigned chemical structure with the corresponding atom or fragment highlighted.
  • Edits spectra using a special edition of ACD/SpecManager.

ACD/SpecX also has Oracle database connections so that spectral data can be read and updated in Oracle. Ian Dugdale, VP, Sales for ACD/Labs, stated that, "Our mutual customers asked ACD/Labs and CambridgeSoft to collaborate and deliver what they see as the right combination of capabilities to make the E-Notebook a complete solution. CambridgeSoft understands well how to manage and display structures and data, and the workflow of discovery chemists. ACD/Labs' expertise in the management of analytical information will present a compelling proposition when featured in CambridgeSoft's E-Notebook."

Antony Williams, VP, Scientific Development and Marketing for ACD/Labs, commented, "We are delighted to respond to our customers' requests for the integration of SpecX technology with CambridgeSoft's E-Notebook. Building SpecX technology within the E-Notebook is the proper way to address the requirements of analytical instruments' data management in a collaborative environment such as the Notebook."
