Milford, MA and Toronto, Canada, August 27, 2001 - Advanced Chemistry Development (Toronto, Canada), and Waters Corporation (Milford, Massachusetts) have signed a partnership agreement whereby ACD will provide its MolX software to scientists for use together with Waters Millennium32 chromatography software. The ACD component, based on ActiveX, will enable chemical structures to be viewed with chromatographic peaks. The integration with ACD/ChemSketch software will also allow structures to be appended to chromatograms so that the two-dimensional structural drawings can be stored in the Millennium32 database for later retrieval. The chromatogram, structure, and experimental conditions become distinct, but integrated, parts of the database record of the analysis. At any time, a scientist can search the database by structure, substructure, chromatographic parameter (e.g. mobile phase, column brand, column type) and retrieve results quickly.
The "structure intelligence" provided by ACD/MolX is expected to be especially attractive to scientists using photodiode array detection and mass spectrometry who want to associate structures with spectra and who wish to assign as much information to their samples as possible. ACD ActiveX components are available as a structural integration add-on for Version 4.0 of Millennium32 Software which was introduced in March at the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry. Waters has scheduled the first shipments for late in September.
"Chromatographic science depends on the physical property attributes of individual molecular species and their interactions with the chromatographic column and mobile phase. We are excited about our collaborative partnership with Waters and think that the combination of our mutual software capabilities will allow scientists to realize significant productivity gains and access to legacy data," said Antony Williams, ACD's Vice President - Scientific Development and Marketing.
"Our customers are asking for tools that enable them to extract more chemical information from their data," said Tom Hall, Senior Marketing Manager - Data Products, Waters Corporation. "This agreement will allow both companies to demonstrate the powerful, combined capabilities of Waters chromatography software products and ACD's software tools to our mutual customers. We also look forward to working with Advanced Chemistry Development to investigate opportunities for closer integration between the two firms' products, in order to increase their combined problem-solving capabilities and ease-of-use."
When completed, Millennium32 Software will be the only 21 CFR Part 11 compliant-ready chromatography data system with chemical structure capability.
