The final "o" of acenaphtho, benzo, naphtho and perylo and the "a" of the monocyclic prefixes cyclopropa, cyclopenta, cyclohepta, etc. are elided before another vowel, as benz(o) [a] anthracene. In all other cases the final "o" or "a" is retained
