Characteristic Groups

Compulsory Prefixes Rule C-10.1

10.1 - The characteristic groups listed in Table C-I are always cited by prefixes, as given in the Table, to the name of the parent compound (for choice of the parent compound see Rule C-12). Multiplying affixes and locants are added as necessary (for numbering see Subsection C-0.15).
