Substitutive Nomenclature

Guide to Construction of the Name Rule C-12.8

12.81 - When the parent compound (principal chain, ring system), principal group, and other substituents have been selected and named, the numbering of the complete compound is allocated. This depends in the first place on the numbering laid down in Sections A and B for the principal chain and ring systems, but in so far as choice remains the numbering is carried out in accordance with the Subsection on numbering (C-0.15).

Example to Rule C-12.81

The preceding rules and the rules for numbering given in Subsection C-0.15 lead to the numbering shown in the formula and used in the Example to Rule C-12.7.
