Method (b) has also been used for naming ring assemblies connected by a double bond. The presence of a double bond was indicated by the capital Greek letter

and the point of attachment on the ring was given by superscript locant numbers. This method is not continued in these recommendations; accordingly, assemblies of three or more identical ring systems interconnected by double bonds cannot be named as ring assemblies.
