Examples to R-4.2.8

In this example, the replacement operation (see R-1.2.2) may be applied. For acyclic systems, the replacement operation is applied to the name of the parent hydride after consideration of the principal characteristic group(s). Accordingly, the principal characteristic group is preferred to the heteroatoms for low locants.
Principal group: -carboxylic acid
-oic acid
Parent hydride: Pentadecane
Parent hydride + principal group: Pentadecanoic acid
Replacement "a" prefix: oxa-
Compound name: 4,7,10,13-Tetraoxapentadecanoic acid
