ACD/Labs Announces New Product Manager, Mass Spectrometry
Advanced Chemistry Development announces the appointment of Dr. Mark Bayliss
as Product Manager for our mass spectrometry software products. Mark will be
responsible for providing MS focused expertise and continuing the
development of our software platforms.
Prior to joining ACD/Labs, Mark spent the last four years working as a Product
Manager and Product Marketing Manager at Thermo Finnigan for a number of
their quadrupole based technologies. His roles included a strong software
bias as part of product development, promotion, training, sales, and
collaborations. His focus in the small molecule arena has included Open
Access Technologies, Drug Discovery High Throughout Screening, Mass Directed
Fraction Collection, and routine Quantitation.
"This is an exciting opportunity for me to join the "family" here at ACD/Labs as
a Product Manager, in an area that personally means so much to me - Mass
Spectrometry and software. As a spectroscopic tool it still amazes me the
things that are possible with this wonderful technique. The challenge as we
all move forward is how to take the huge amounts of data that are produced
at amazing rates from our instruments and convert them into easily
interpreted results; quickly and clearly - we are all caught in the
data-results-report time trap which is ever accelerating. It is clear that
the phenomenal growth in the number of users of the ACD/Labs software is due to
the exciting nature of this company and its people, the rapid introduction
of customer requested functionality, and the highly integrated approach to
chemistry, structure, and spectroscopy. It's these aspects of the company
that really appealed to me and why I have accepted this exciting position."
Prior to joining Thermo Finnigan, Mark had spent a couple of years with
Micromass supporting the demonstration, applications, and training of their
quadrupole technologies. "My experience with a number of the MS instrument
vendors provides me with a detailed understanding of their products, both
hardware and software. Knowing how some of the different software platforms
are constructed and their functionality is important when understanding how
to integrate different feature requests and how they are to be routinely
used."
Mark came into the MS arena through his Doctoral research at the University
of Wales, Swansea, under Prof. Dai Games. "I am indebted to Dai for opening
my eyes to the power of MS - when people say that it can get in your blood
they're right!"
