Reactive Reports a Finalist in the Fifth Annual Pirelli INTERNETional Award Competition
March 15, 2001 (Milan, Italy)
The science webzine hosted by ACD, Reactive Reports,
is this year's Finalist in the Fifth Annual Pirelli
INTERNETional Award Competition.
Reactive Reports had come very close to winning
a prize in the competition, according to Pirelli Awards organizer
Marco Farinelli. There were over 700 entries for the
competition this year. "Unfortunately, the good works were many,
while the awards are just a few," reported the spokesman
for the Pirelli Awards Committee.
"Given the intense competition, it is an honor and a surprise
just to be chosen as a Finalist," said David Bradley,
chief Science Writer for Reactive Reports.
"We aim to provide the best blend of
science for the casual reader, and nothing changes that goal."
Bradley has won many awards for his science writing to date,
among them a Daily Telegraph Young Science Writer
Award (in 1992) and a Merit award in the British Medical Journalism
awards.
The award is based on multimedia presentation,
in addition to information-rich content.
"We are fortunate to have a highly skilled team of web designers whose
goal is to communicate chemistry through our visually stimulating web pages.
Coupling their skill sets with the technical writing skills of our
contributors, we hope that our efforts are both educational and amusing."
said Antony Williams, ACD Vice President of Scientific Development and
Marketing, and regular contributor to Reactive Reports.
The Pirelli INTERNETional Award was established in 1996
through a generous endowment by the Pirelli corporation
(Pirelli S.p.A), as a means of encouraging scientific
culture through the internet. It is estimated to be the
top prize in the field, both in terms of prestige, and also
monetary value, with annual prizes totalling 50,000 Euros
($47,000 US).
All eligible works were
carefully examined and voted on by an
international Jury Panel, including such illustrious members as Prof.
Umberto Colombo, former Minister for Italian Research, and Jury
coordinator; Ilya Prigogine, 1977 Nobel Laureate for Chemistry;
George Metakides, Director of "Essential Information Society
Technologies and Infrastructures", European Commission;
Alun Anderson, Editor in chief of New Scientist; Roberto Vacca,
mass media expert; Gennaro Visconti, General Manager of the Italian
Ministry of Industry; Luciano Criscuoli, General Manager of the Italian
Ministry of Research; Giuseppe Rao, Coordinator of the Italian
Government's Information Society Forum; and last but not least,
Riccardo Perissich, Public Affairs Director, Pirelli S.p.A.
