ACD/Labs is please to present an Enterprise Solution newsletter for April 2008. Learn a little bit more about what enterprise tools really are, and how ACD/Labs tools differ from the typical ‘Enterprise-level’ fare. Three applications showcasing how our software can be configured and customized to meet the needs of organizations large and small are highlighted in the areas of NMR verification, chiral chromatographic separation and purity assessment by LC/MS.

What's Distinct about ACD/Labs 'Enterprise' Software?
The term enterprise is used so broadly and for many different applications that it is easy to get confused about the particulars. Different software vendors or in-house solutions contribute to the overall enterprise framework, with interconnected and often overlapping boundaries. ACD/Labs Enterprise products offer standardized, automated processing; chemically intelligent interpretation; integration and reporting of results from an array of spectral and chromatographic techniques and vendors. Uniform results are then delivered to the desktops of users and decision-makers via desktop, LIMS, or web-based applications. To best illustrate what ACD/Labs Enterprise software has to offer, we’ve highlighted three applications being used in industry today.

Automated Structure Verification by NMR
Manual spectral evaluation can be very time-consuming at an individual and/or high-throughput level. Life science organizations currently use our automation software to evaluate the match between a proposed structure and a sample's 1D and/or 2D NMR spectra. It allows scientists to unambiguously pre-confirm a match at 75–90% confidence that helps them increase their throughput and quality control in a productive and accurate manner.

Method Selection in Chiral Chromatography
Brute force screening of chromatographic methods is an accepted practice, but it is not the most efficient one. ACD/Labs software is being used to scientifically design the screening approach for challenging chiral sample purifications to minimize the number of screening experiments without compromising the quality of the final method.

Purity Assessment by LC/MS
Compound libraries need to be assessed for purity. For so many compounds, the time and expense of testing each compound to ensure its identity and detect impurities is huge. Advanced LC/MS deconvolution algorithms use chromatographic and MS information to automatically reduce the number of false positives in a high-throughput purity assessment process by LC/MS. It further provides valuable impurity detection and identification capabilities.
