ACD/3D Viewer

Key Capabilities

ACD/3D Viewer is a fast yet accurate 3D modeling and visualization program. It is fully integrated with ACD/ChemSketch, allowing you to draw 2D structures and quickly obtain their 3D representations in a striking color display.

Structural display options range from using sticks, to balls-and-sticks, to the more sophisticated opaque space-filling technique or transparent dots-on-a-sphere. The atomic radii can be fully and individually customized.

For structural details, ACD/3D Viewer permits atom-to-atom measurement and 3- and 4-vertex (torsion) angle measurement. It contains a first-order algorithm for structural optimization. Users who need a greater level of computational power for molecular calculations will be pleased to know that it's very easy to output the molecule(s) in molfile format, which is highly compatible with other computational chemistry software.

For those who want an eye-catching display, their structure can be set to auto-rotate, with or without changing display styles (from stick to ball-and-stick to spheres, and so forth). You can set one of 16 available colors for the atoms and background.

From there, it's a simple cut-and-paste to a standard word processor package. Additional file-save options - from the 3D interface as 3-D OLE server files, or from the ChemSketch interface as sketch, bitmap, metafile, or molfiles - guarantee that the ACD/3D Viewer module will find wide applicability as a chemical visualization tool.

With ACD/3D Viewer you can

  • Manipulate 3D models: move, 2D and 3D rotate, resize, change styles, and colors.
  • Display a 3D structure as stick, ball-and-stick, spheres, or disks.
  • Add an overlay of small-dots at approximately the van der Waals radius level to the solid 3D structure.
  • Measure and change bond lengths, bond angles, and torsion angles.
  • Optimize the structure using a 3-D CHARMM-type of force field.
  • Switch from 3D to 2D display in the ChemSketch interface at the click of a button.
  • Set the 3D molecule to Auto-rotate, with or without changing the style of structure display.
  • View 3D structure in perspective.
  • Create animated GIF files.
  • Export 3D models to other geometry optimization programs and use them as good starting configurations.

Example

Adenosine Triphosphate

The 2D structure of Adenosine Triphosphate was drawn in a couple of minutes using ACD/ChemSketch. 2D structure drawing with ACD/ChemSketch is made even faster with ACD/Dictionary containing thousands of pre-drawn templates - just enter the name and obtain the structure; 3D optimization took only a few seconds!
