Many analytical processing, storage, and reporting tasks can be qualified as routine, batch, or requiring minimal user intervention. ACD/Labs enables this classification of tasks to be handled in a fully automated environment using ACD/Automation Server, significantly boosting laboratory productivity and efficiency.

As an example, modern Open Access technologies permeate routine analytical work within laboratories, allowing processing tasks to be undertaken in a time- and user-efficient manner. Whilst effective in processing one type of data from one type of instrument, these technologies often lack the extensibility and flexibility to span multiple instrument types and techniques. Additionally, most solutions lack an application development interface and user-driven functionality extensions that can be utilized by IT and Informatics groups.
