III. ALLOWED PARENT STRUCTURES

III.1. Chains

All types of homogeneous and heterogeneous chains are supported within the mentioned restrictions:

  • Carbon chains (e.g. tricosane)
  • Homogeneous hetero chains (e.g., hydrazines, phosphanes, silanes)
  • "a"-nomenclature chains (i.e., 2,5,8,11-tetraoxadodecane)
  • Alternating chains (e.g., tetrasiloxane)

For example:

Tetrasiloxane 4-oxa-2-thia-6-phospha-5-silaoctane

III.2. Cyclic Systems

Monocycles

All types of monocycles are supported within the mentioned restrictions:

  • Carbomonocycles
  • Heteromonocycles with Hantzsch-Widman names
  • Heteromonocycles with "a"-nomenclature names
  • Alternating monocycles
  • Homo heteromonocycles

For example:

IUPAC Name 4H-1,4-oxaphosphinine
Index Name 4H-1,4-oxaphosphorin

IUPAC Name 1,4,10,13-tetrathia-7,16-diazacyclooctadecane
Index Name 1,4,10,13-tetrathia-7,16-diazacyclooctadecane

Polycycles

The following types of polycyclic systems are supported:

  • Bridged (von Baeyer) polycycles.
  • Fused systems, including multi-parent fused systems with single connecting component.
  • Spiro systems, with mono- and polycyclic components.
  • Bridged fused systems with no more than two bivalent or single unbranched acyclic trivalent bridges.
  • Assemblies of cyclic systems.
IUPAC Name 3H-dispiro[1-benzofuran-2,1'-cyclohex[2]ene-4',2''-indole]
Index Name dispiro[benzofuran-2(3H),1'-cyclohex[2]ene-4',2''-[2H]indole]

IUPAC Name 7,8,9,10-tetrahydro-1,4-epoxy-7,10-(epoxymethano)cycloocta[b]acridine
Index Name 9,12-epoxy-1,4-ethano-1H-oxocino[4,3-b]acridine, 3,4-dihydro-

IUPAC Name 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine-4,4''(1H,1''H)-dione
Index Name [2,2':6',2''-terpyridine]-4,4''(1H,1''H)-dione

The following types of polycyclic systems are not supported:

  • Bridged fused systems more complex than specified above.
  • Other special types, e.g., Cyclophanes, Fullerenes.
