Lessons Learned from Six Years with ACD/NMR Processor in a CRO

Darryl LeBlanc, SCYNEXIS, Inc.

Abstract

Robust and efficient NMR support is critical for pharmaceutical discovery and development efforts. However, medicinal and process chemists often significantly outnumber NMR personnel (~65:1 in our case!). The acquisition, processing, and dissemination of analytical data and information must therefore be as efficient as possible. ACD/Labs NMR Processor has been a key part of NMR support at SCYNEXIS for almost seven years now. The evolution of our ACD/Labs NMR Processor installation as SCYNEXIS has grown will be briefly described. Providing NMR support within a growing contract research organization (CRO) presents some unique challenges. For example, data security is paramount due to the wide range of customers. Also, the diversity of chemical entities submitted for analysis is extremely high, customer expectations vary wildly, and the level of NMR experience exhibited by chemists ranges from minimal to very extensive. The standard features of ACD/Labs NMR Processor & ACD/ChemSketch that we utilize to help address the above challenges will be discussed, as will our approach to efficiently orienting users new to the software.
