One-Wedge Convention for Stereochemical Representation

Shu-Kun Lin*, Luc Patiny, Andrey Yerin and Janusz L. Wisniewski

Abstract

We proposed that various bonds (see the figure) used for perspective specification, e.g., the two ways (I and II) of solid wedge and broken wedge representation most frequently seen in literature, can be replaced by only one kind of wedge (solid wedge, III). For quadrivalent center, only one wedge should be used (IV). The flexibility, simplicity, unambiguity, usefulness for the R-S specification and the beauty of the one-wedge system are discussed.
