Preface to the Second Edition of Section C

This Second Edition of Section C contains a considerable number of changes from the First Edition, but almost all of them are confined to correction of errors, clarification, or provision of better examples. However, one major change has been made, namely, deletion of the rules for order of complexity of substituents.

The Commission takes this opportunity to thank all those who submitted comments on the Tentative Version (1961) of these Rules and on the First Edition (1965). All these comments have been considered and many of them have been adopted.
