Examples to R-4.2.6

In this example, the nomenclature of assemblies of identical units (see R-1.2.8) may be used. Two identical units, , are linked by the symmetrical connecting substituent group .
Principal group: -carboxylic acid
-oic acid
Parent hydride: Propane
Parent hydride + principal group: Propanoic acid
Multiplicative connecting group:

-ethylene-
Connecting substituent name: Oxybis(ethylene- oxy)-

Note: The numbering of the unit including the principal characteristic group (COOH) is retained.
