Specific Classes of Compounds

R-5.3.4 Azides

Compounds containing a group N3 attached through one nitrogen atom to a parent hydride structure are named (a) in substitutive nomenclature by adding the prefix "azido-" to the name of the parent hydride RH, or (b) in functional class nomenclature by citing the class name "azide" as a separate word following the name of the group R.
