R-5.7 Acids and Related Characteristic Groups

Carboxylic acids and related characteristic groups, except for aldehydes, for which see R-5.6.1, are named by means of an appropriate suffix or ending as listed in Table 12.

Suffixes to designate modified carboxylic acid groups in which the carbonyl oxygen atom or the hydroxy group is replaced by another atom or group are illustrated in Table 13. Organic sulfur and phosphorus acids and replacement modifications are illustrated in Table 14 and Table 15, respectively.
