Sulfonium Compounds

Rule C-551

551.1 - Sulfonium compounds are named by citing the radical names corresponding to followed by "-sulfonium" and the name of the anion .

Example to Rule C-551.1

551.2 - When heterocyclic nomenclature according to the principles of Rule B-1 is applied to compounds containing sulfonium sulfur, "-ium" is added to the name of the ring system with elision of terminal "e" if present; when the principles of Rule B-6 are applied, replacement of CH by sulfonium sulfur is denoted by the prefix "thionia-". The name of the anion is finally added.
