Carbocyclic and Heterocyclic Ketones

The name of a carbocyclic or heterocyclic ketone which contains, in addition to the carbonyl group as a ring member, the maximum number of non-cumulative double bonds in the ring system, is formed by adding the suffix "-one", "-dione", "-trione", etc., to the name of the parent compound, or, in the case of certain diones, tetrones, etc., the name is formed by adding the suffix "-quinone", "-diquinone", etc., to the name (sometimes in modified form) of the parent compound. The ketonic oxygen atom may also be expressed by the prefix "oxo-".
