ACD/Labs Blog

With the end of the year quickly approaching, what better time to reflect on the work that your team has accomplished this year and recognize the foundation that lends itself to this success—laboratory culture. As the holidays are a great time to boost employee morale and encourage team building activities, here’s how you can spread holiday, or as I’d like to call it, “chemical” cheer in the lab this year to foster scientific discovery year round.

Last week I attended the annual small molecule NMR conference, SMASH, in Philadelphia, PA. It’s been an exciting year attending NMR meetings as an exhibitor with ACD/Labs and SMASH is my final stop for 2018. From opening with workshops and user meetings to its final symposium, SMASH was a huge success. Let’s take a look back at the most memorable events from last week in pictures.

ChemSpider, the most robust online chemical structure database owned by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), includes information on over 63 million structures, properties, and more. After ChemSpider’s market research showed that Percepta Predictors and ACD/Name tools are among the top five functions users regularly seek on ChemSpider, we renewed our partnership last month so we can continue to help the ChemSpider team in refining and updating their database to enhance chemical intelligence worldwide.

Ever wonder what goes in to exhibiting at a major analytical science tradeshow? I’m glad you asked! Earlier this year I had the opportunity to travel to Pittcon 2018 (Feb 26 – Mar 1) for my first scientific conference as a member of industry, and an exhibitor rather than as an academic. I’ll take you behind the scenes of ACD/Labs’ conference machine to give you an idea of what it’s really like to exhibit at a conference.

Studying chemistry can open up many career paths since it can be applied in a variety of fields. In fact, an understanding of chemistry helps provide answers to almost every question about the world and helps makes us more informed consumers. To support students pursuing a career in chemistry, ACD/Labs recently collaborated with Pearson to help undergraduate students learn about the relationship between spectroscopic data and chemical structures.

In 2017 we conducted our first formal customer service oriented survey. Completed by 482 industry professionals working in pharmaceuticals, academia, agrosciences, life science, and chemicals and materials science, our survey explored satisfaction with ACD/Labs’ support, responsiveness, employee knowledge, and overall software quality. A summary of the results is presented here.

As 2017 comes to an end, Daria Thorp, President and CEO of ACD/Labs, looks back the company's 23 year history, and recounts some of its notable solutions, including ACD/Spectrus, ACD/Name and ACD/Percepta. She also discusses Luminata, ACD/labs' award winning impurity control informatics solution, which was introduced earlier this year.

Professor Marcel Jaspars, head of the Marine Biodiscovery Centre at the University of Aberdeen, and leader of the PharmaSea project, is featured in this video outlining his team's research methodologies, and their unexpected discoveries related to the treatment of Epilepsy and Alzheimer’s.

If you happen to be at Bio-IT World this year, be sure to stop by booth #423 to meet the ACD/Labs team and learn more about our solutions; including our new impurity profile information management solution Luminata. We’ll be busy with a number of activities in addition to networking with our fellow peers. Read on for an overview of what our team has planned for the show and where you can find us.

We welcomed Mark Meyers to ACD/Labs as our new vice president of global sales earlier this year. We’re ecstatic to welcome Mark to our executive team as our company continues to evolve and bring innovative software solutions to our clientele around the world. In his role, Mark will be responsible for leading ACD/Labs’ sales initiatives while overseeing the sales, technical, and services teams.
